Lesbos, April 2004

A brilliant ten-day spring visit to the eastern Greek island of Lesbos: so far east is it that it's biogeographically Turkish/Asian! We enjoyed stacks of exotic eastern Mediterranean migrants, such as Rüppell's Warbler, Scops Owl, Cretzschmar's and Cinereous Buntings, Masked Shrike, Red-footed Falcon, Little Crake, Black-headed Wagtail and Collared Flycatcher, plus lots of exciting residents like Krüper's and Western Rock Nuthatches, Sombre Tit, Middle Spotted Woodpecker and Long-legged Buzzard. The island was also awash with superb orchids, and we saw a plethora of exciting butterflies and other wildlife too. Outstanding!
