Poland/Slovakia/Hungary,
July 2004

They said it couldn't be done: but we targeted and successfully located every available European woodpecker in high summer, even White-backed and Three-toed! This brilliant trip also featured such delights as Nutcracker, Aquatic Warbler, Great Snipe, Great Bustard, Moustached Warbler, Saker Falcon, Eastern Imperial Eagle and a whole range of other forest, wetland, grassland and montane species. We managed 203 species in seventeen days, which is pretty remarkable going! We visited many iconic locations, such as the Biebrza Marshes, the Bialowieza Forest (European Bison!), the Tatra and Biesczady Mountains, and the Hortobágy puszta. What a great trip!
