Once wild, now very developed island in far south-east
Hampshire. Some patches of good habitat remain, especially at Sandy
Point, Black Point, Sinah Warren and Gunner Point (a great site
for Green-winged Orchid).
Primarily of interest for wintering seabirds (including
auks, divers and rare grebes) and waders (the
best Hampshire site for Sanderling), but also excellent for
spring and autumn seabird and passerine passage. Recent rarities
have included Yellow-browed Warbler, Hoopoe, Sabine's
Gull and Desert Wheatear (co-found by Simon!), the latter
in November 2005. A very confiding Snow Bunting was a welcome
visitor in winter 2005/6.
